Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
This quote I dedicate to my husband, the outgoing president of the Chico Triathlon Club.
Last night he and I had our last meeting as Chico Triathlon Club board members. It was sad but bittersweet as we start a new adventure in Sacramento. I have a lot to catch up on with my blog but I thought I would post his note to the CTC group. As his words are beautiful, thoughtful, and a deep reflection of his leadership and passion for the club.
“Sad evening last night, the last CTC Board meeting for Gloria and me, which finished with me handing my president’s binder to Greg Watkins. I started this club less than 2 years ago with 12 people meeting in my back yard. Now we have over 75 members, incredible community support, and a recognizable presence at races. We got people off the couch and watched them blossom into athletes, got people who once toed the water at sprint races to step up to Olympic and Half-Ironman racing, elevated our experienced triathletes to perform better than ever, built a community that embraces and welcomes every athlete at every level, and, best of all, met incredible, warm, friendly people and great athletes. The CTC turned into more than I ever thought it would when we started. I had never done anything like it and, for the first time, found a way to make difference in the community beyond simply being an athlete. The CTC’s roots are strong and it will continue to grow, prosper, and inspire. Years from now, when I see the CTC on the podium and at the start line, I will still be proud. ”
