US Half-Marathon 2011 Reflection

“The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong. You always go too far for your body. You must handle the pain with strategy…It is not age; it is not diet. It is the will to succeed.” Jacqueline Gareau, 1980 Boston Marathon champ

Results from yesterday’s road race. While it’s not my fastest 13.1 (my PR was set this year at PF Chang’s Rock-n-Roll Half-Marathon AZ in January, time of 1:35:10) I am pretty impressed with my steady pacing (something I’ve really had to work to improve), and shaving off 2 minutes from last year’s time. This year the course was revised due to construction on the Golden Gate bridge, so runners were forced to go out and back on the west side, which made for some pretty bad people-jams. Due to some very narrow areas on the bridge it made it difficult for runners to keep their pace and/or pass one another. On the other hand it was a beautiful morning to be running through the city of San Francisco. Throughout the first several miles, until I got into a steady zone, I was being mindful of how blessed I am to be able to run, to honor my ability, to manifest my goals out on the road and through my body, to give thanks for the day, moment, and each passing moment. I thought about all my inspirations, from my favorite athletes running in the NYC Marathon to my fellow Chico Tri Club athletes participating in Almond Bowl. It was a beautiful day to be in sync with you all. I honor you☺

Keep reaching for your peak…..

“I tell our runners to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with your head, the middle part with your personality, and the last part with your heart.” -Mike Fanelli, running club coach
