I posted this my to Facebook page but think that it is blog post worthy. Calling this “Keeping it real Wednesday”
Tony Robbins says we are addicted to our problems and the stories we tell ourselves about them. Are there any stories that you keep replaying about why you are not good enough, fast enough, smart enough, rich enough, pretty enough, blah, blah, blah? These stories are not always evident because sometimes we tell them without awareness, only to find ourselves feeling discouraged, low, and possibly depressed or anxious. Don’t get me wrong we need stories. They are the thread of life and time. However, as any good pop psychology minded person knows that thoughts become beliefs, beliefs become perception, and perception determines how we move along in this world. If the stories we tell ourselves are shaping perceptions of lack in ourselves and we move along in this world feeling “not enough” then I believe something needs to be changed. But sometimes we don’t change, why? Is it because when we tell our stories we subconsciously hope to get validation? And this validation reinforces our behavior and gets us some attention, and when we get attention we feel acknowledged we feel seen. So there you go. We have this need to feel seen. To be heard. To be acknowledged. Guess what? We have the power to do that all ourselves. So instead of giving into maladaptive patterns and telling stories of woe we can rewrite the script, and practice that script, and own that script, and then eventually before you know it LIVE THAT SCRIPT! That amazing creation of a story that reflects your true, empowered, and loving nature that is devoid of NOTHING.
At any moment you have an option and a choice to starting telling yourself a new story…Step into your power my people!
I remember taking that photo!
