Courage to climb…

“God is my strength,

God is my inner peace,

God is the lamp unto my feet”

This was my mantra on Saturday as my husband I am climbed to the summit of Mt. Diablo. It was approximately 5000+ of climbing from start to the summit.  Somewhere early on in the climb this mantra came across my mind and stuck with me. This mantra was not only a something to help keep me focused but it was a reminder that…”If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it.”  (John Irving, Academy Award Winning Screenwriter and Novelist)

I believe that “having the courage” and honoring yourself (true value of self) is the first step major step of creating purposeful change, just like climbing the mountain. Having the courage to honor your dreams, wishes, purpose, or that “something” that you feel is right, but that you know will be challenging is not an easy choice. It often goes contrary what others think is the right thing to do. However, despite that, I have chosen the seemingly harder path – the way up the mountain, the direction that most feel is counterintuitive.

As I continued my climb it naturally got hard the closer I got to the top. This mantra helped me focus on the strength I needed to endure the climb, just like the strength need to have a constant and enduring belief in myself, my abilities, and your/my dream.  The inner peace as an affirmation to keep my heart rate steady and know that “as within so without.” And  “the lamp unto my feet” to remind myself to only look as far as I needed to keep me focus on the right path that next turn.

I know that as I start this new journey, to the top of my mountain, I will face some challenges BUT as I arrived at the mountain summit and saw the view I knew that if it were easy then everyone would do it…It is my desire that everyone listen to their inner voice, honor it, and follow their dreams to “find a way of life you love.”

Keep reaching for your peak….and I will see you at the top
