Well I have been keeping up with my fitness these last couple of days and in preparation for Thanksgiving I ran 8 miles (75% effort) yesterday, was in the gym this morning (50 minutes cardio, stretch, and abs), and tomorrow morning. On Thanksgiving we will be running Turkey Trot 10k 🙂 I’m really excited because I get to race with my husband and his sister, but also, I can keep my mentality of using this race to stay on track with my training. I will allow Thanksgiving dinner to be my refueling reward while being mindful to choose good “re-fueling” food. Side note: There is a great article in this months Muscle & Fitness Hers “Holiday Survival Guide” it has some great and practical tips for staying focused and realistic during the holidays. Below is nice definition of mindfulness that I expand on in my sport psych training. Mindfulness is a practice, just like sport, that sets the stage for building upon key areas of mental skills that enhance our physical performance.
“Mindfulness is the increased ability to be aware and attentive to what is happening in the moment. The concept of mindfulness embodies being conscious of the present and not being in an automatic mode.”
So this holiday commit to being mindful to each action and choice– be open to more freedom and awareness in the moment no matter where or what you maybe doing. That is something to be thankful for…choose to be present.
