Knock Knock…

Who’s there?

Uncomfortable who?

Oh you forgot I was invited…

Please don’t be surprised and don’t act like you didn’t know “Uncomfortable” was going to show up to the “party”. You actually invited her. You were expecting her. You have been preparing to meet her for months, weeks, and maybe even years. And while you did not know what time and when she as going show, you did, in fact, know she was going to show. Oh, you forgot? Well, I’m sure you didn’t forget that you also invited Victory along too. She has been on your mind a lot. You knew when she was going to show up. You even bought a special outfit to impress her. You imagined what it would like the moment you met her. But I guess you forgot that Uncomfortable always shows up before Victory. Always has, always will. So, please welcome Uncomfortable she has made a long journey to show up for you. And while she is not the most pleasant to be with she knows how to get Victory to show up. But I must caution you to try not to confuse Uncomfortable with Defeat, Discouragement, or Fear.  They were not invited but they try to show up in her disguise. Be aware and know the difference. Trust yourself and trust all those times before when you were with Uncomfortable and made it through. She’s here to make you better. Welcome her because sooner or later you can be sure to expect…

Knock… knock…

Who’s there?

Ahhh… I’ve been expecting you. The door is open but I should tell you Uncomfortable is no longer here.

If we want what we say we want, and what we have prepared for then we must be willing to treat every single situation that presents on race day as an expected “visitor”. Some have “visitors” have RSVP’d, while others just showed up unannounced but none of them should be a surprise. That’s the name of the game on race day- to not be surprised of who shows up to party. In other words, can you welcome the expected as much as the unexpected? Are you willing to adapt to the changing “visitors” quickly, swiftly, and efficiently? Are you willing to attend to each guest with skill, wit, grace, cunningness, and fierceness? Are you willing to risk being with Uncomfortable in exchange for being safe? Who ever is willing…will…meet Victory in the end.
