Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness. Your willingness to wrestle with your demons will cause your angels to sing. Use the pain as fuel, as a reminder of your strength.” -August Wilson (American Writer, 1945-2005)
This quote is the reminder of the work I do daily with my students and athletes. Sometimes the tough part of my work is being with someone as they confront parts of themselves that they would not otherwise dare to show anyone else. I am honored to be apart of this process and it reminds me that we all need people in our lives that we can be real with, me included. The process, and goal, is not to eliminate, stop, or resist parts of ourselves, but in the confronting, healing, and exposing of these things to the light allow us to realize we are stronger than we believe ourselves to be. I honestly believe deep down in my spirit that we are all blessed with a gift to share with the world and use as our instrument for positive change.
I challenge all my readers to stop and take a moment to look back and see how far you have come. For better or worse you were in a different place in the past and from this moment on try to forgive yourselves for your shortcomings, mistakes, and flaws. If need be “expose those things to the light” and prove to yourself that you can live through the judgment, criticism, fear, or shame. Embrace that your past does not define you or the reflect the truth of who you really are. You are greatness. You are a blessing. You are a human BEing that is in the process of growth, not in the process of perfection. You are truly whom you believe yourself to be. Why not start believing that if you are reading this right now then there is a reason and you have purpose. Otherwise keep believing you are your past and keep getting the results you have gotten in the past.
Keep reaching for your peak and shine on my friends…
